NYC’s famously demanding creative shop SWT announced on Monday that it would be requiring employees to come back into their mid-town Manhattan office a minimum of six days per week. The announcement was met with backlash from one of their junior creatives on Twitter. Agency CCO Peter McIntyre talked SN through the decision.
“Look, we have everything here that these people could possibly want: ping pong tables, beer kegs, and desks that convert into beds. They can bring their dogs to work, for god’s sake! And you just can’t replace the synergy that comes along with in-person collaboration. It’s important to the culture of this agency and to our clients that our team show up and collaborate together.”
When asked about his employee’s comments on Twitter, Peter responded with incredulity.
“I just don’t get it. You still get one day a week to work at home. What’s the big deal?”
